INHABITAT STUDY HOUSE 17
Continuous and united spaces open out to nature providing interior-exterior visual relations concealed beneath a great concrete volume which balances on top of the dry-stone walls stemming from the vertical incision in the ground.
This quiet cul-de-sac location takes in the essence of the Mediterranean seaside, with the clean scent of the pine trees that are part of the native vegetation of a privileged area with a unique microclimate.
The main volume of the house rises from the ground and seems immovable in the topography. The house, therefore, projects outwards from the hillside and inwards to an inner courtyard that provides cross ventilation to the lower volume.
The intense blue Mediterranean Sea is framed through the resulting concrete boxes, composing pictures that take in the vistas that stretch from the Cap D’Or in Moraira to the East round to the Ifach Rock in the South, creating in this way an organic interaction between nature and the architectural elements.
The access is from above, where the entrance hall and double garage are situated at street level, hidden within a prominent rectangular exposed concrete volume that covers the floor below, providing the living room with a spectacular double-height ceiling.
This first floor is the social area of the house: a four-sided glass enclosure clearly divided into three separate spaces: kitchen, dining room and lounge, with a convenient guest toilet and cloakroom; all 3 rooms with breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding landscape. This level leads out on to the terrace which houses the extensive pool and an outside bathroom to service this area.
Locally sourced dry stone walls frame the rear of the house, while natural marble flooring flows from inside to out and contrasts with the grey concrete of the two main structural volumes, the one below accommodates four bedrooms with their own ensuite bathrooms and private terraces, plus a gym, home-cinema and study. This lower floor is a very spacious capsule of tranquillity that opens out to the front though floor-to-ceiling folding wooden shutters and to the back, to the interior patio that travels down the three storeys, allowing natural light into the hallways.
